When our Light Sussex hybrid went broody a few weeks ago, it took all of about a heartbeat to decide that we wanted to hatch some eggs for some wee chicks to add to our flock. We decided that eggs were our primary goal as our ex batts don't do a ton of laying, so (having always wanted them), we decided upon a clutch of multi-coloured eggs from The Rainbow Egg company.
The excitement around these parts for the last 3 weeks went something like:
"Have the eggs hatched?"
"No. Not for 21/20/19/18/17/16/15/14/13/12/10/9/8/7/6/5/4/3/2/1 days."
Five minutes later.
"Have the eggs hatched now?"
We were asked so many times, I was pretty certain they were never going to come out of their eggs, but on Wednesday I was greeted by a little black face in Sylvie-hen's special maternity ward in the front porch. Over the course of about 24 hours, blackie was joined by 7 adopted siblings.
They have to be the cutest thing ever. Little balls of gorgeous fluffy loveliness. And Sylvie-hen is such a good mama - keeping a keen eye on their antics and tolerating more pecks to the eye than I ever would.
